The Art of Wrought Iron Railings: Between Tradition and Modernity
A railing is not just a simple safety barrier. At the Ferdi Group workshop, it becomes an artistic signature, a centerpiece that dialogues with the architecture and tells a story of fire and metal.
The Creation Process
Every project begins with a sketch, a dialogue with the client to capture the essence of the space. Unlike mass production, our artisanal approach allows us to adapt the curves, the density of the patterns, and even the visual balance according to the site's lighting.
Forging allows for shapes impossible to achieve with cold bending. The metal, heated to a high temperature in our traditional furnace, becomes malleable like clay. It is at this precise moment that the artisan imposes their vision, creating scrolls, foliage, or interlacing that will bear the mark of the fire.
The Ferdi Know-How
We favor quality steel, more resistant and noble than standard iron. Brass is often integrated as an inlay or contrasting element, adding a touch of warmth to the apparent coldness of the metal.
Architectural Integration
A successful railing is one that seems to have always been there. Whether it's for a manor house in Wallonia, a contemporary renovation, or a monumental staircase, the piece must follow the lines of the building. We study the perspectives, viewpoints, and surrounding materials (stone, wood, glass) to create perfect harmony.
The finish is just as crucial. The patina, whether anthracite black, matte, or slightly shiny, is chosen to withstand the years and the Walloon climate, while aging with elegance. A professional-quality anti-corrosion protection is systematically applied, guaranteeing the longevity of the work.
